Outside Eden

P1040523Eden was in the east.
That makes sense: east being
where morning lies
and morning being
when everything
is new and refreshed
and light-hearted.
That was Eden.

But the day goes by
tilling soil and weeding thorns.
Bent backs working out first hand
what they like or don’t like
what’s good or bad.

Soon the sun
slides westward
drawing with it
the courage of hearts
the longing of hearts.

Agitated, we are
looking backwards
over our shoulders.
Who knows
what happened to hope?

We are all a little too
knowledgeable by this time of day
a little too aware.
Fear niggles at the base of spines.

    1. Bitterness is the big killer. I watched it suck the life out of my aunts. Personally, I seem to have two (at least) minor personalities so I am both cynical and hopeful, pessimistic and optimistic. Though they both think the other is stupid. Life is difficult in my head sometimes. lol

  1. “bent backs working out first hand what they like or don’t like”…perfect! Such is life…I’m bending extra these days…trying to find more that I like. Great work Belinda!
