Post Fire Haiga 1

.

Some parts of our block are very slow to recover. It even burnt the soil, of course. Our border is obvious now. The other side is green. Weeds mostly, but still.

We do have a beautiful patch with native lilies, legumes and other things.

    1. We watched a jumping ant very purposefully carrying a small piece of dry stick, and wondered about it. Later found out they drop it into the holes of competing species in order to slow them down, so that they get the first pickings! Sounds human. (Some humans. Not too many, luckily. But then again — the toilet paper wars!)

      1. I’ve been watching a particular lot of ants at my place trying to work out what they’re doing, but it’s so difficult. They seem to wander around in a totally random manner most of the time.

        1. I think if they are hunters they are hoping to be right place, right time. But also some species can’t go back to the nest empty ‘handed’ or they get killed. Inch and hopping ants are like that, so I’ve been informed. Tough love!
